Devlog - Reuben's Route (around 90% complete!)
Hi everyone!
Since it's been a while, I decided to do another update here!
Reuben's route is is coming along well. I've completed most of the work with creating and adding assets.
Since my last post, I've coded all the music and SFX, I've created the new sprites for the unique characters, new sprite variations for Morgan and Reuben. I've created and coded the flowcharts and, most importantly, I've coded in all the sprite expressions.
Currently the work left to be done is:
- create a few BG animations.
- draw the CGs and code those in
- Then test everything
I have a couple of simple animations I want to make before I release the route in beta but the biggest amount of work left is creating the CGs. I currently have 3/8 CGs complete. So there are 5 left.
I'm trying to really pace myself with the art due to having issues with my drawing hand so I'm trying really hard not to overwork myself.
I do not have an ETA on release yet because it ultimately depends on how long it takes to finish CGs and how much time we have to spend testing everything and typo hunting!
I'm hoping that I can release Reuben's route by the end of March or beginning of April but I don't want to give a specific date yet. However, we are definitely getting closer!
Though I'm not working on Yuu's route officially yet, I have been replanning the plot and overhauling the outline. Mostly if I'm taking a break from art. That way when Reuben's route is being tested, I can start focusing on writing Yuu's route!
And now for a couple of screen caps just to give you a bit of a sneak peek!

Also, please don't worry! Those of us who enjoy your work know how hard you are working and we appreciate it! Take your time and get it the way you want it! The creative process should not be rushed, and I imagine that we are all more than happy to wait for the quality that you have brought to every other route. Normally, I might like one or two routes in a visual novel. It is very rare that I adore them all, but I have for both this game, and Changeling. I have no doubt that Reuben and Yuu's routes will be well worth the wait! Our excitement isn't meant to rush you or make you feel bad, but simply because we know something amazing is coming! :D

im so excited to play reuben's route!!! when i first started playing gilded shadows i took an instant liking to reuben and yuu! what can i say, i was so weak for how sweet reuben was and the way yuu spoke was kinda funny tbh? but i was really sad when i found out that they weren’t done yet. it was fine though, because i ended up loving all the other routes too (quill and caleb have my heart) but reuben and yuu are just *vague hand motions*

Initially, I was really torn on releasing the game without the Kickstarter characters or waiting but I decided that if I waited the game wouldn't be released until this year so it was better to release the first six LIs first then update with the remaining three. I do feel bad for everyone who played and realised one of their favourites was to-be-released though. （＞人＜；）
Please don't feel bad!! You've put so much work into this game, and it is honestly amazing! I can't even count how many times I've replayed each route at this point. Plus, having six routes already counts as a full game in my opinion. There are so little otomes out there (both indie and Japanese) with more than five! You're doing great! Please take the time to take care of yourself, first and foremost!
At least we are slowly getting there! I am really hoping to release Reuben's route into beta testing soon and then I'll start working on Yuu's route. ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

I'm so excited! Really looking forward to Reuben's cause I loved him in the other routes. I'm most looking forward to Yuu though so I'm super excited to hear you're already working on his :D

I think we will! Don't be nervous, this game is so well written and I'm sure this route will be no different. I love how opposite your characters are! It's fun to see how different everyone's favorites are, with some games everyone likes one character because they objectively have a better story line but I feel like all of these are so well-written it just comes down to personal preference. I've never had such strong opinions about the different characters in this type of game lol and it made it so much fun to play. I couldn't stand Caleb at first but definitely came around to him later, and ended up liking Magnus less by the time his route was over which was crazy, I respect him and liked his story but personally he doesn't jive lol. My personal faves are Caissa, Lance, and Quill :) I love them so much it's impossible to pick a favorite. I'm sure Reuben will bring a lot to the game! Much love <3
I love when people say they like Magnus the least or don't jive with him because I always joke that he's the one most like me. 〜(￣▽￣〜) Mwa ha ha!
Honestly, though, I love Caleb's route and it always makes me happy when people like him too.
Based on your likes, it seems like you like the sweeties though. (In which case I really hope you like Reuben because he's another sweet, wholesome guy in my opinion!) (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

so hyped !!! this game has been my hyperfixation ever since i played the demo a bit before christmas.
i hope your hand is alright though! please dont push yourself too much!!
My hand is okay but I'm being careful after what happened in the months after the game first released. I don't want a repeat of that so I'm only drawing for a few hours a day. Sadly, it means things take longer but it's better to take longer than for my hand to be out of commission for a few months because I overworked it. ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ
